Environmental Commitment
Q: Are Martha Stewart Clean™ products “all natural”? Are there any synthetic ingredients?
A: Yes, Martha Stewart Clean™ products are all natural. Although there is no standard government definition for natural, our proprietary formulas are 99+% plant and mineral based with biodegradable ingredients, and we use no synthetic or artificial ingredients.
Furthermore, our products are certified as best-in-class products recognized for safer chemistry by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Design for Environment program, which maintains the highest standard for environmentally friendly products.
Q: What does the Design for the Environment (DfE) logo mean?
A: The Design for the Environment label allows consumers to quickly identify and choose products that are safer for families and the environment. When you see the DfE logo on a product, it means that the DfE scientific review team has strictly screened each ingredient in the product for potential human health and environmental effects. The DfE logo is only earned when a product is best in its class.
Q: Is the packaging recyclable?
A: All Martha Stewart Clean™ bottles are recyclable and when possible contain post-consumer content. Consumers can help us achieve our goal of environmental responsibility by recycling our containers when they are empty; soon we will begin to offer refills. All of our cartons are sourced from well-managed forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that we protect our renewable resources.
Q: Are the ingredients biodegradable?
A: Yes, Martha Stewart Clean™ products contain biodegradable plant- and mineral-based ingredients.
Q: Are your products tested on animals?
A: Martha Stewart Clean™ products are never tested on animals, and we do not allow our suppliers to do it for us. That’s why our labels carry the "Leaping Bunny" symbol indicating that our products are cruelty-free.
Q: Do Martha Stewart Clean™ products contain animal by-products?
A: No, Martha Stewart Clean™ products contain no animal by-products, unlike some other cleaning products (particularly fabric softeners).
How to Use
Q: Can the cleaning products be used on types of surfaces other than the ones suggested?
A: To achieve the best results, products should be used only as directed on the back label. Always check the cleaner by testing on a small surface area that is not visible.
Q: Are Martha Stewart Clean™ products anti-bacterial?
A: Martha Stewart Clean™ products are formulated to clean surfaces effectively by removing dirt, soap, mildew, and mineral deposits. Regular use of these cleaning products will help minimize bacterial growth.
Q: How much Martha Stewart Clean™ Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener should I use per load?
A: Both our Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener are double-concentrated (2x), so very little goes a long way. In fact, the laundry detergent will wash up to 85 loads and the fabric softener will last up to 64 loads, both in High-Efficiency machines.
Safety and Allergens
Q. Are Martha Stewart Clean™ products hypoallergenic?
A. Our dish-hand soap, laundry detergent, and fabric softener are hypoallergenic. Though we deliberately formulate our products to avoid ingredients such as sodium lauryl sulfate (known to be a skin irritant), our plant- and mineral-based formulations come from a variety of natural sources, and we cannot guarantee that any of our other products are completely free of allergens that might irritate skin. We suggest that users wear gloves if they are concerned.
Q: Are these products safe for my children? Pets?
A: Martha Stewart Clean™ products are not harmful when used as directed and are safe for all contact surfaces used by children and pets. However, we recommend that all cleaning products be kept out of reach of children.
Q: What do I do if I accidentally ingest a product?
A: In case of accidental ingestion, drink a large quantity of water and then immediately contact your health care provider. These products are not meant for ingestion.
Q: Does any of the Martha Stewart Clean™ packaging contain the organic compound BPA (Bisphenol-A)?
A: None of our packaging contains BPA.
Q: Do Martha Stewart Clean™ products contain the plasticizers known as phthalates?
A: None of our Martha Stewart Clean™ products contains phthalates.
Q: Do your products contain any fragrances or preservatives?
A: Martha Stewart Clean™ products are naturally fragranced from our plant- and mineral-based ingredients, and do not contain any added artificial fragrances or preservatives of any kind. Additionally, we do not add any artificial dyes or colors to our products.

General Product Information
Q: Why aren't Martha Stewart Clean™ products as cheap as some other green cleaners?
A: Martha Stewart Clean™ products contain the highest quality ingredients and are actually priced well below other, less effective brands that market themselves as safe for the environment. In the case of our Laundry Detergent and Fabric Softener, their solutions are double-concentrated to wash up to 85 and 64 loads respectively; with a price-per-load of approximately 21 cents, they are a remarkable value.
